Emma Stone and Taylor Swift have been best friends for over a decade. The Oscar-winning actress and Grammy award-winning musician first met in April 2008 at the Young Hollywood Award ceremony. Stone later told MTV News in an interview that shortly after she met Swift, she became a fan of her music, and after they exchanged a few e-mails, they began to hang out.
While the two stars are popular in their own right, Taylor Swift tends to garner much more media attention than Emma Stone does, and because of this, Stone and many of Swift's other friends in the industry are often questioned by the media about her. And In December 2023, that's exactly what happened when Stone appeared on the British late-night program The Graham Norton Show, in which she was subjected to a barrage of awkward questions about Taylor Swift.
Emma Stone Refused To Answer If Taylor Swift's Song Was About Her
At the 2024 81st annual Golden Globe Awards, Emma Stone and her friend Taylor Swift were both in attendance, much to the delight of the media and fans.
While Stone was nominated for her role as Bella Baxter in the fantasy black comedy film Poor Things, Swift was nominated for Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for her The Eras Tour film.
Emma Stone later took home the highly coveted Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture, while Swift's documentary was beaten by the film Barbie.
After the awards ceremony was over, Stone made headlines after she sarcastically responded to a question by the press about her reaction to Swift cheering her on during her win.
Emma Stone jokingly insulted Taylor Swift by saying: "What an a**hole, am I right?" before adding: "I've known her for almost 20 years, so I'm very happy she was there. She was also nominated tonight, so I'm very happy she was there — but what an a**hole."
But that wasn't the first time Emma Stone had been forced to answer questions about Taylor Swift.

Is Taylor Swift's Song "When Emma Falls In Love" Really About Emma Stone?
Taylor Swift is famous for penning hit songs about her past romantic relationships, but what about friendships? That's the question many fans would like to know regarding her single "When Emma Falls In Love".
The song, which was released in 2023 on Swift's re-released album titled "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)," tells the story of a girl named Emma who, despite her cheery disposition, has pessimistic views on romance.
The beginning and arguably the most poignant lyrics of the song are as follows:
When Emma falls in love, she paces the floor
Closes the blinds and locks the door
When Emma falls in love, she calls up her mom
Jokes about the ways that this one could go wrong
She waits and takes her time
'Cause Little Miss Sunshine always thinks it's gonna rain
When Emma falls in love, I know
That boy will never be the same
But is "When Emma Falls in Love" really about Emma Stone, who many have theorized is about her relationship with ex-boyfriend, actor Andrew Garfield?

Taylor Swift collaborated with the 1975 frontman but decided to leave the songs off her album. In another interview, Stone told Entertainment Tonight that they would have to ask Swift about the song.
While Swift has not commented on who "Emma" is, it is unlikely that she will, at least not any time soon, as the talented songstress is famous for leaving the people she writes her songs a secret.
In an October 2015 interview with Extra, Taylor Swift expanded on her reasoning behind not revealing who she writes her songs about to the public:
I don't feel there is any injustice when people expand beyond my music and speculate on who certain songs might be about. I've never named names, so I feel like I still have a sense of power over what people say—even if that isn't true, and even if I don't have any power over what people say about me. The fact that I've never confirmed who those songs are about makes me feel like there is still one card I'm holding.
