However, Imahara sadly died in July 2020. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Imahara died at 49 years old following a brain aneurysm. With Imahara being so successful on MythBusters, and with him also being successful in other areas of his life, we looked at his net worth.

Grant Imahara starred on ‘MythBusters’ for years

Imahara joined MythBusters in 2005. The show had just launched a few years prior, according to Rolling Stone. Imahara was a part of the build team on the show with Byron and Belleci as the trio took part in experiments to debunk popular myths by using science and special effect techniques.

He was ultimately on the show for almost 10 years before he departed with Byron and Belleci in 2014. Then in 2016, the three of them starred on the Netflix series, White Rabbit Project, where they investigated unusual events from pop culture, science, and history, according to IMDb. It ultimately ran for one season.

What was Imahara’s net worth?

Before becoming a popular personality on MythBusters — and after studying electrical engineering in college — Imahara worked at George Lucas’ Lucasfilm’s THX labs.

He worked for the company’s THX and Industrial Light and Magic divisions while he was there, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He operated R2-D2 on the Star Wars prequels, as he specialized in animatronics, and worked on various other films including, The Matrix Reloaded, Van Helsing, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. After his time on White Rabbit Project, Rolling Stone reports that Imahara actually returned to special effects.

Also prior to MythBusters, Imahara competed on Comedy Central’s BattleBots. His robot was the Middleweight runner-up in the first season and was the first-ranked robot in the third season.  

Because of all of Imahara’s success in film and on MythBusters, he was worth an estimated $2 million at the time of his death, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

His ‘MythBusters’ co-hosts mourn his passing

Imahara’s co-hosts on MythBusters took to social media following his passing. 

“I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years,” Savage wrote on Twitter. “Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle PERSON. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend.”

On Instagram, Belleci wrote, “Goodbye my friend. This world won’t be the same with you gone. You were an inspiration to me and to so many others. We’ve been through a lot together, good and bad and I guess that’s why I feel like I’ve lost a brother. Rest In Peace.”

Additionally, a representative for Discovery released a statement. 

“We are heartbroken to hear this sad news about Grant. He was an important part of our Discovery family and a really wonderful man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” the statement read, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
